There is a lot happening this weekend in South Mobile County! From celebrating Halloween festivities to educating others on the importance of being environmentally conscious.
ART – FOOD – LIVE MUSIC
The fun begins Friday night when the ArtSeaLabfestival will kick off their celebration at the Estuarium on Dauphin Island with the Forks and Corks Gala. At the Gala, attendees will have a chance to experience a local version of MasterChef Junior as a variety of students from Mobile County High Schools will compete against each other to show off their cooking skills in a seafood challenge. This challenge is a part of the Mobile County Public School’s Culinary Arts and Hospitality programs.
On Saturday, the Dauphin Island Sea Lab will be hosting additional events all of which will work to educate people on the importance of keeping the waters clean and beautiful along South Mobile County. There will be a 3D Marine Debris Workshop/Competition which will work to raise public awareness about the worldwide issue of garbage in our oceans. There will also be a Love Our Gulf Youth Art Competition for students in grades 6 through 12 where all artwork submitted will be completed by local students and will work to raise awareness of the Gulf of Mexico’s beauty, resources, and the ecological challenges it faces. There will also be professional artwork available at the Art Festival.
DON’T BE SCARED
For those individuals looking for some entertainment more on the spooky side, there will be a Massacre Island Haunted Bike Ride past some of the most haunted spots on Dauphin Island. For those who are looking to attend this, don’t forget your costumes and make sure you pedal quickly so the ghosts do not get you. Lastly, Bellingrath Gardens and Home will be hosting their annual “Boo at Bellingrath” Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. During this time, the Gardens will be filled with spooky and fun inflatables and several local businesses will be present to hand out candy and trinkets to guests. Make sure to get your tickets for this awesome event, because we heard that you will be taking some so many “treats” that you may need a wagon just to get them back to your car.
LIFE IN THE MIDDLE AGES
Hosted by the Society of Creative Anachronism, the Barony of Osprey will present Life in the Middle Ages. You will see Knights in Armor as they storm the castle, view melee’s and sieges. Visit with Lords, Ladies, Artist, and Medieval Merchants. Watch our resident Blacksmith demonstrate his craft in the Fort’s original Blacksmith Shop.
Overall, it is an exciting weekend for South Mobile County as individuals work to raise awareness for the importance of keeping our gulf coast waters clean and others who are working hard to host fun events for the Halloween season.
