Bayou La Batre
Get ready for a fun filled day with the whole family in Bayou La Batre on Saturday, August 5. Presented by the Bayou La Batre Area Chamber of Commerce, the 4th Annual Bayou La Batre Kayak Classic Fishing Tournament will begin at 6 a.m. Held along the coastline of Bayou La Batre and the Gulf of Mexico, kayakers can compete for 33 different awards. These titles will include Master and Junior Angler divisional titles. Enjoy live music from Disciples and the Crow. The official site for the event is 14772 State Docks Rd, Bayou La Batre, AL 36509.
Bellingrath Garden’s & Home
Born in Atlanta, Georgia, on August 6, 1869, Walter D. Bellingrath was Mobile’s first Coca-Cola bottler and the founder of Bellingrath Gardens and Home.
In honor of Mr. Bellingrath’s Birthday, admission to the Gardens is free to all Mobile and Baldwin County residents on Sunday, August 6th!
Guests are invited to tour the Gardens and the beautiful Bellingrath Museum Home, there is an additional charge of $9 to tour the Bellingrath Museum Home.
On August 5th, head to Fort Gaines for the 153rd Battle of Mobile Bay Commemorative Day. The well preserved ramparts of Fort Gaines has guarded the entrance to Mobile Bay for more than 150 years. The event highlights the integral role in the Battle of Mobile Bay. The cannon will be fired every 45 minutes in honor of the soldiers that fought in this pivotal battle. We will have our Resident Blacksmith providing demonstrations in the fort’s original blacksmith shop.
