Bayou La Batre, Seafood Capital of Alabama!
From beautiful scenic byways and coastal estuaries, to seafood and shrimp boats, to festivals and fishing village charm, Bayou La Batre is the real deal. Bayou La Batre lies along the Mississippi Sound on the Gulf of Mexico in south Alabama. Known in the late 1800s and early 1900s as a resort town with medicinal spring water, Bayou La Batre is now the Seafood Capital of Alabama. Be sure to spend your visit here birding, fishing, boating, and eating! Also, don’t miss a ride down scenic byway 188 to see century-old oaks!
Bayou la Batre is immortalized in Winston Groom’s “Forrest Gump” by being the hometown of Forrest Gump’s best friend, Bubba Blue. Just like Bubba and his family, Bayou La Batre is home to many shrimpers and fishermen. Bayou La Batre is also home to a globally renowned and successful boat building industry, producing everything from barges and tugboats to the Black Pearl in Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean!
